Demand for electric vehicles has dropped significantly in Ukraine
In May 2026, Ukrainians purchased 2,652 electric vehicles, which is 12% fewer than in April and 57% fewer compared to the same period last year.
According to the association, 2,652 battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) were added to the Ukrainian vehicle fleet.
“Last month, 2,652 battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) were added to the Ukrainian vehicle fleet. Compared to May of last year, demand for electric vehicles fell by 57%, and compared to April 2026, by 12%,” Ukravtoprom noted.
Passenger electric vehicles traditionally accounted for the largest market share—2,495 units. However, only 466 of these were new vehicles; the rest were used vehicles.
The commercial electric vehicle segment totaled 157 units in May, of which only 10 were new vehicles.
Among new electric vehicles, the following were in highest demand:
- BYD Sea Lion 06 EV – 64 vehicles;
- BYD Leopard 3 – 57 vehicles;
- Zeekr 7X – 39 vehicles;
- Toyota bZ4X – 30 vehicles;
- Volkswagen ID.Unyx – 24 vehicles.
The leaders among used electric vehicles first registered in Ukraine were:
- Nissan Leaf – 310 units;
- Tesla Model Y – 262 units;
- Tesla Model 3 – 199 units;
- Chevrolet Bolt – 100 units;
- KIA Niro EV – 89 units.
Statistics indicate a further slowdown in the Ukrainian electric vehicle market, with the main demand continuing to be concentrated in the used car segment.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Automobile Manufacturers Association “Ukravtoprom” on Telegram.
As a reminder, on June 8, the State Customs Service of Ukraine launched a new phase of controls on the import of used cars from abroad. As part of a pilot project, approximately 50% of all customs declarations for such vehicles will be subject to additional inspection.
