Derek Chisora claimed that Verhoeven was "robbed" in his fight against Usyk

Former heavyweight title contender Derek Chisora commented on the victory of WBA, WBC, and IBF world champion Oleksandr Usyk over Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven.

Chisora spoke about this in an interview with the YouTube channel Seconds Out.

The British boxer is convinced that Verhoeven should have won the fight, and that the referee’s decision to stop the bout was premature.

“Rico won this fight. Hey, boxing media, Rico won the fight. I wasn’t counting the rounds; I was just enjoying the match. It was a premature stoppage. That damn guy got robbed,” Chisora said.

The British athlete also expressed the opinion that Usyk didn’t take his opponent seriously right away and only started to be more active toward the end of the fight.

“Usyk didn’t give up. You have to understand that Usyk just hadn’t been in the ring for a long time, so he didn’t give up. Alexander just wasn’t in a hurry. You know, if he fights a real boxer… and if he faces this guy next time, he’ll knock him out. I think Usyk didn’t respect him until he realized where he was, around the 11th round. And he was losing,” Chisora said in an interview with the YouTube channel Seconds Out.

As a reminder, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Rico Verhoeven by technical knockout in the 11th round. After the fight, the Dutchman’s team announced its intention to file an official protest over the referee’s decision.

Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven announced that he would file an official protest following his loss to WBC, WBA, and IBF heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk. The athlete was dissatisfied with the referee’s decision to stop the fight in the final seconds of the 11th round.

Former undisputed super welterweight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez commented on the bout between Oleksandr Usyk and Rico Verhoeven, which took place in Giza, Egypt.

Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven commented on his bout against Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk, in which he suffered a defeat.

Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk defeated Dutchman Rico Verhoeven by technical knockout in the 11th round and successfully defended his heavyweight championship belts.

After defeating Rico Verhoeven by technical knockout in the 11th round, Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk stated that he is ready to fight two more bouts.

Oleksandr Usyk stepped into the ring against Rico Verhoeven in a bout for the WBC heavyweight world title. The fight will take place in Giza and promises to be one of the most high-profile of the Ukrainian’s career. The Ring title belt will also be on the line.

Prior to this, Usyk and Verhoeven held a joint press conference before the fight and engaged in another battle of wits, where they openly expressed respect for one another but also their readiness for a tough fight. Both athletes emphasized that despite their different disciplines, they are united by a love of fighting and competition.
