Rico Verhoeven reacted to his loss to Usyk
Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven commented on his bout against Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk, in which he suffered a defeat.
The athlete wrote about this on Instagram.
“Set aside your emotions. Read the judges’ scorecards. There was one second left before the 12th and final round.
Forward and upward! Respect to Usyk, it was an honor to share the ring with you. Let’s do this again,” the athlete wrote.
He also addressed the head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Turki Al-Sheikh, whom he tagged in the post.
The bout proved to be intense for both fighters: in the 8th round, Verhoeven landed several dangerous right-hand blows; in the 9th round, both fighters were feeling the fatigue but continued to exchange blows; in the 10th round, Usyk landed a series of accurate punches and rocked his opponent; in the 11th round, the Ukrainian sent Verhoeven to the canvas, after which the referee stopped the fight.
Oleksandr Usyk won by technical knockout and successfully defended his championship titles, while for Verhoeven, this was his first such serious defeat in the ring.

Prior to this, Usyk and Verhoeven held a joint press conference before the fight and engaged in another battle of wits, where they openly expressed respect for one another but also their readiness for a tough fight. Both athletes emphasized that despite their different disciplines, they are united by a love of fighting and competition.
