Details Have Emerged on How Spain Will Distribute the Record-Breaking Prize Money for Winning the 2026 World Cup
The Spanish national team, which won the 2026 World Cup, will receive a record $50 million in prize money from FIFA. However, not all of this amount will be distributed among the players.
The Spanish team won its second World Cup title by defeating Argentina 1–0 in the final. According to FIFA, the tournament winner will receive $50 million in prize money for the first time in history.
This is more than previous champions received: Argentina earned $42 million for winning the 2022 World Cup, and France received $38 million after its 2018 triumph.
The total prize pool for the 2026 World Cup was $727 million. Of that amount, $655 million was distributed among the 48 teams that advanced to the tournament’s final stage, while FIFA allocated an additional $72 million for the national teams’ preparations. Every team that advanced to the group stage was guaranteed to receive at least $12.5 million.
According to Forbes, the prize money is not paid directly to the players but is transferred to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The RFEF determines how much of the funds will go to the players, coaching staff, and support staff, and how much will remain in its own budget.
According to Diario AS, about 45% of the prize money—$22.5 million—is earmarked for player bonuses. This amount will be distributed among the 26 players on the national team, so each of them could receive about $865,000, not including additional bonuses from personal sponsorship contracts.
