Large-scale exercises by the State Emergency Service in Cherkasy showcased the capabilities of aviation and special units

Large-scale training exercises for State Emergency Service (SES) rescue workers were held in Cherkasy, where they practiced operations in the air and on water using aircraft, drones, and specialized equipment. Rescuers practiced evacuating people, fighting fires, and conducting search operations under conditions simulating real-life emergencies.

In Cherkasy, rescue workers conducted large-scale exercises during which they practiced operations in multiple environments simultaneously—in the air, on water, and on land, using helicopters, boats, drones, and specialized equipment to create the most realistic scenarios possible.

This was reported during the exercises, which were attended by representatives of the State Emergency Service, air rescue teams, and the “Delta” special unit, as well as by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, who emphasized that such exercises prepare the service not only for seasonal challenges but also for responding to threats during wartime. “We are at the training exercises of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. And today, these exercises are a step toward preparing not only for winter but also for repelling the enemy specifically at civilian and critical infrastructure facilities,” Klymenko stated.

During the drills, several scenarios were practiced simultaneously—from aerial radiation monitoring to the evacuation of victims from the water and from a ship that was simulated to have sustained damage, as well as the emergency transport of people by helicopter. Special attention was paid to complex simulated situations, including firefighting on ships and islands, searching for victims in accident zones, and even transporting a damaged helicopter on an external sling, which requires high coordination between units.

The exercises utilized French SuperPuma helicopters, personal watercraft, rescue boats, motor pumps, and drones, which enable rapid assessment of the situation and coordination of rescue operations in challenging conditions.

Various units of the State Emergency Service participated in the training, including air rescue teams and the “Delta” special unit, which already has experience operating in real emergency and combat conditions and carries out the most high-risk missions. “You have seen the work of our special ‘Delta’ unit, and these are people who have gained experience. They, among others, carry out the most dangerous work,” the minister noted.

Separately, rescuers demonstrated the work of a mobile safety class, where they teach how to respond to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats, and also conducted workshops on mine safety and first aid.

The State Emergency Service emphasizes that such training allows for the coordination of various services and preparation for the most complex scenarios, where every second can be crucial for saving lives. This was reported by a Ukrinform correspondent.

In the Zvenyhorodsky District of the Cherkasy Region, a conflict broke out between employees of a local company and staff of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, during which a starter pistol and a can of pepper spray were used.
