In the Chernihiv region, a drunk deserter opened fire with an automatic rifle
In the town of Bakhmach, Chernihiv Oblast, law enforcement officers detained a 49-year-old local resident who opened fire with an automatic weapon directly from the window of a residential building.
The detainee turned out to be a serviceman who is currently on unauthorized leave from his unit. At the time of the offense, he was intoxicated.
The incident occurred on the evening of June 8. During a search of the suspect’s residence, police officers discovered and seized an AK-74 assault rifle equipped with a silencer, as well as two magazines and 17 rounds of 5.45mm ammunition. All seized weapons and ammunition were sent for forensic examination. Investigators have charged the suspect with violating two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: illegal handling of weapons and ammunition, as well as hooliganism committed with the use of a firearm. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway, and the suspect faces up to seven years in prison.
