The Chief of the General Staff commented on rumors that the war would end in November 2026

The main indicator of progress toward peace is the daily combat operations carried out by Ukrainian defenders on the front lines.

This was stated in a comment to LIGA.net by Andriy Gnativ, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who is also a member of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation.

Responding to journalists’ questions regarding behind-the-scenes discussions about a possible end to the war in November 2026, the military commander avoided making political predictions (This refers to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stating during a closed-door meeting with lawmakers that he hopes the active phase of the war will end by November 2026).

Gnatov emphasized that he is a military officer, not a politician, so the army’s task is to do everything possible on the battlefield, while strategic processes take place at the highest levels of government. At the same time, he noted that it is the decisive actions of the military that bring a just peace closer, the advent of which he firmly believes in.

In late May, President Zelenskyy convened a closed-door meeting with members of parliamentary factions. Among other things, the head of state stated at the time that there is every chance of ending the active phase of the war by November.

Within days, these words were picked up by the media and advisers to the Office of the President, and later, the head of the Office of the President, Kirill Budanov, stated that such a scenario is indeed possible. For a society exhausted by four and a half years of full-scale war, including mobilization and new large-scale attacks by the Russian Federation, these words sounded like yet another long-awaited glimmer of hope.
