A popular photo spot in the Lviv region has been destroyed after a field of wild poppies—a destination that attracted large numbers of tourists—was plowed over.

Photos from this spot recently became extremely popular on social media, sparking a lively public debate.

Users actively discussed the issue of trampling private crops for the sake of good photos, as well as the legality of the mass cultivation of this crop.

The landowner, Serhiy Shelemba, explained that no one had intentionally planted poppies in the field—the plants were wild.

Farmers deliberately allowed them to grow so they could be used as green manure to enrich the soil with micronutrients.

“We planted green manure crops there. We planted them to improve the soil. Now we’ve tilled everything and worked it into the ground. It will all decompose and release micronutrients. Next, we plan to plant beans,” said Serhiy Shelemba.

The entrepreneur noted that a similar situation with the profuse blooming of poppies at this location had already occurred in 2021. Despite significant public interest, the owner does not plan to create a permanent tourist area or a business centered on photo shoots here.

The farmer emphasized that he had no complaints about the visitors and that they did not cause significant damage to his property. While the area was vacant, the farmers did not object to visits from people seeking to take striking photos.

However, once a new crop is planted, the situation will change significantly, and outsiders will be prohibited from entering.

“As long as the poppies were wild, we didn’t mind people coming to take photos. But if we plant beans, then, of course, we won’t want people taking photos there anymore […] I laughed at the fact that people are interested in taking photos during the war, interested in posting photos of how beautiful they look, while young men are dying in the war. I believe this is not the time for such photo shoots. But that is each person’s right to choose,” the farmer shared his thoughts.

This is reported by “Suspilne.”
