A fatal traffic accident occurred in Brody, Lviv Oblast, in which three teenage girls were killed. Law enforcement officers detained the driver, who, according to preliminary reports, was driving under the influence of alcohol.

The accident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on July 20 on Ivan Bohun Street. According to preliminary information, the 24-year-old driver of a Mercedes lost control of the vehicle on a curved section of the road. The car veered onto the shoulder, struck a tree and a concrete utility pole, and then overturned.

There were six people in the car—the driver and five underage passengers. Three girls, aged 15 and 16, were killed in the accident. Another 16-year-old female passenger was taken to the intensive care unit in critical condition. A 17-year-old boy also sustained injuries and sought medical attention on his own.

According to preliminary reports, the group was returning from a birthday celebration for two of the passengers.

After the accident, the driver fled the scene, but law enforcement officers located him and detained him. A medical examination revealed that his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.

Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, criminal proceedings were initiated regarding the accident under Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of traffic safety rules by a person under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the death of several people.

The decision on whether to notify the detainee of the charges against him is currently being considered.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General
