In Kyiv, the Kyiv Opera House was damaged in a Russian attack; performances have been canceled
As a result of Russia’s massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv on the night of May 23–24, the building of the Kyiv Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theater sustained damage. Due to the damage, the theater’s administration was forced to urgently change its schedule and cancel upcoming events.
The Kyiv Opera announced this on its official Facebook page.
Specifically, a performance of the popular children’s ballet “Thumbelina” by composer Yukhim Rusinov was scheduled for Sunday, May 24, at 12:00 p.m. However, due to the damage caused by the shelling, the performance was officially canceled.
“Due to damage to the theater building resulting from a massive nighttime attack, we are forced to cancel today’s performance of the ballet ‘Thumbelina,’” the theater stated in its announcement.
The theater noted that all purchased tickets remain valid, and the performance itself is planned to be rescheduled for a later date, which will be announced shortly.
Currently, an assessment of the extent of damage caused by the blast wave and debris is underway on the theater grounds. Special services are working to address the aftermath of the attack and are inspecting the safety of the interior spaces to facilitate the cultural institution’s return to operation.
According to preliminary information, there are no casualties among the theater staff.
