Zaluzhny called on the world to step up support for Ukraine following Russia's massive attack on Kyiv
Valeriy Zaluzhny, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom and former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, responded to the massive Russian strike on Kyiv on the night of May 24 and called on the international community to respond firmly to Russia’s actions.
Zaluzhny wrote about this on Telegram following one of the most extensive attacks on the capital in recent times.
“Rockets, drones, ballistic missiles. The dead and the wounded. The world must respond to this evil. Ukrainians deserve greater support,” he emphasized.
The former commander-in-chief also expressed his condolences to the families of the dead and injured and thanked everyone involved in dealing with the aftermath of the attack.
“Strength and endurance to those who defend, rescue, and help,” Zaluzhny added.
On the night of May 23–24, Russian forces launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv, using strike drones as well as air-, sea-, and ground-based missiles.
According to city authorities, damage was reported at more than 40 locations across the capital. Residential buildings, a school, dormitories, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building were hit.
Two people were killed in the attack, and another 69 were injured.
“Thirty-six of them were hospitalized. Thirty-three people received outpatient care and treatment on site,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
