Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the first step toward ending the war must be an unconditional and complete ceasefire.
According to Zelenskyy, a ceasefire is a complex process that requires not only a political decision but also effective control and monitoring mechanisms.
The President noted that due to the existence of so-called “buffer zones” 20–40 kilometers wide, there is a risk that Russia could use the ceasefire to advance its troops deeper into Ukrainian territory.
That is why, the head of state emphasized, the ceasefire must take place without additional conditions and be accompanied by appropriate guarantees.
Zelenskyy also expressed the view that to reach agreements, it would be advisable to hold a summit involving Ukraine, Russia, European countries, and the United States.
“Ukraine is willing to do all of this. We’ll see if Russia is willing as well. So far, they haven’t demonstrated that,” the president noted.
