According to Rubio, the last 48 hours have brought some progress in the negotiations, although no final agreements have been reached yet.
“There is some good news, but this is not yet the final result. Perhaps a little later today we will be able to say more,” he said during a visit to India.
As the U.S. Secretary of State noted, Washington is working with its partners in the Gulf states on the terms of a potential agreement.
According to Rubio, if successful, this could guarantee unimpeded shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and help resolve issues related to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Iranian state media reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding alleged agreements to open the Strait of Hormuz, calling it “incomplete and untrue.”
The U.S. reacted strongly to Iran’s plans to introduce a toll system for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, stating that this is unacceptable and could derail any negotiations. Washington considers this strategic waterway critically important and will not tolerate its commercial or political control by Tehran.
