Zelenskyy hopes that the Reform UK party will allow Ukrainian flags to be displayed — The Guardian

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that the British party Reform UK would reconsider its decision and allow Ukrainian flags to be flown again at the local government offices it administers.

The country’s leader emphasized that such demonstrative actions by certain political forces undermine international solidarity and strong bilateral relations between nations.

The decision by some municipalities controlled by Reform UK to remove Ukrainian flags has caused serious concern in official Kyiv.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy diplomatically but clearly called this move a regrettable political mistake. The head of state is convinced that during a large-scale European crisis, symbols of support must not be neglected.

“I don’t want to interfere in any political matters, but, you know, the world today is so sensitive. Sometimes small mistakes can destroy a great friendship or important contacts. I believe that people shouldn’t make mistakes, shouldn’t do anything that could ruin a friendship, and even if someone does, I would say: ‘All right, you did it, let’s get back to the negotiating table, talk, and try to understand each other,” the President emphasized.

Responding to a journalist’s direct question about whether the British party should return the flags to government buildings as a sign of solidarity, the Ukrainian leader gave a clear answer.

“I hope they will return them,” Zelenskyy noted, adding that respect for Ukrainian symbols is important to society.

At the same time, the President of Ukraine addressed the citizens of the United Kingdom directly to once again explain the importance of continued assistance.

According to him, financial and military support for the Ukrainian people is not merely charity, but a strategic calculation.

This investment directly protects European borders and serves the national interests of British society itself.

“The British people have helped us from the very beginning of this war; that is true. It is about security, not just values… But we are talking about security in Europe. This is in the interests of Great Britain,” the head of state emphasized.

The head of state made this statement in a detailed interview with the authoritative publication The Guardian.
