OpenAI's advertising business reaches $1 billion annual revenue run rate
OpenAI's advertising business has reached a $1 billion annual revenue run rate, the company said. Advertising in the ChatGPT chatbot began testing in the United States in February, and the ChatGPT Ads service is now available in more than 40 countries, CNBC reports.
Advertising in ChatGPT
According to OpenAI, the advertising division is about 200 days old. The company called this result confirmation of a diversified business model that also includes enterprise products, consumer subscriptions, and pay-as-you-go application programming interfaces.
Advertisements in ChatGPT are shown to users of the free tier and subscribers to the Go plan. These categories, OpenAI noted, account for the overwhelming majority of its 1 billion weekly active users.

Expanding access
On Monday, OpenAI began rolling out access to its self-service advertising service in India, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. The company also said it intends to bring ChatGPT Ads to new markets and add formats, advertising objectives, purchasing options, and tools for measuring results.
OpenAI said that ads are clearly labeled, do not affect ChatGPT's responses, and that advertisers do not have access to users' private conversations. The company's decision to add advertising to the chatbot was criticized by its competitor Anthropic, which devoted its first advertising campaign during the Super Bowl to the issue.
