Most Ukrainians support the Ukrainian Armed Forces' role in defending Europe, according to a survey

More than half of Ukrainians surveyed would support the Ukrainian Armed Forces participating in the defense of European countries in the event of a Russian attack. This includes Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova, Finland, and Poland. Additionally, the majority of respondents believe that the Ukrainian military is currently defending not only Ukraine but also Europe.

This is evidenced by the results of a poll conducted by the "Rating" Sociological Group on April 15–17, 2026.

As sociologists note, the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians view Ukraine as an integral part of Europe’s security architecture.

In particular, Ukrainian citizens believe that in the war, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are defending not only the Ukrainian people but also Europe as a whole.

Thus, 73% of respondents believe that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are defending the people of Ukraine and Europe as a whole in the war with Russia, 23% believe they are defending only the people of Ukraine, and 2% hold a different opinion.

At the same time, as the survey shows, an overwhelming majority would support the participation of Ukrainian troops in the defense of the Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia), Moldova, Finland, and Poland in the event of a Russian attack.

In particular, more than 50% of Ukrainians would support the participation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the defense of all allied countries on the list if they were attacked by the Russian Federation:

  • Lithuania: 63% – would support, 33% – would not support;

  • Latvia: 62% – yes, 33% – no;

  • Estonia: 61% – yes, 33% – no;

  • Moldova: 60% – yes, 35% – no;

  • Finland: 59% – yes, 33% – no;

  • Poland: 58% would support, 37% would not support.

As sociologists noted, the stronger Ukrainians’ emotional connection to the EU, the more they support the Armed Forces of Ukraine assisting other countries in the event of a Russian attack.

Research methodology

  1. Survey method: CATI – computer-assisted telephone interviews;

  2. Sample size: 1,000 respondents;

  3. Sample format: random sample of mobile phone numbers (Ukrainian population aged 18 and older in all regions, excluding temporarily occupied territories, as well as territories where Ukrainian mobile service was unavailable at the time of the survey);

  4. Representativeness: the sample is representative by age, gender, and type of settlement (margin of error – no more than 3.1% with a 95% confidence level).

Also in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, the prosecutor’s office is seeking through the courts nearly 387 million hryvnias in compensation for damages caused by logging in the “Hutsulshchyna” National Park. The investigation claims that under the guise of sanitary work, over 9,000 trees were destroyed there without the necessary permits and approvals. Now, they are attempting to hold the state-owned enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” responsible, to which the relevant forestry enterprise was later merged.
