Czech farm will have to kill more than 20 thousand ducks due to outbreak

The Czech State Veterinary Administration has detected an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza at Agro-V farm near Tršebíč, which will require the destruction of more than 20,000 ducks. To reduce risks, a 3-kilometer sanitary perimeter and a 10-kilometer intensified monitoring zone have been introduced around the farm, restricting the activities of other poultry farmers in the region.

The Minister of Agriculture has expressed suspicion about possible violations of veterinary regulations by the farm, including the possible concealment of the first cases of bird mortality. However, the company's director stated that there had been no violations and that the disease had only recently become known. Outbreaks of bird flu have also been reported in other European countries, where farmers have been banned from releasing poultry outdoors.

The current situation underscores the seriousness of the threat posed by bird flu, as more than half a million birds have already been destroyed in Germany due to similar outbreaks. Further, farms in the Czech Republic and other countries are installing additional security measures to prevent the spread of the virus among poultry.
