The European Commission has set 27 conditions for the new Hungarian government to unblock financial aid

The European Commission has launched immediate talks with Péter Magyar on restoring relations and unfreezing financial aid to Hungary. These include unblocking a €90 billion loan for Ukraine and lifting Budapest’s veto on the next package of sanctions against Russia.

This was reported by the Financial Times. Brussels expects the new leader to unblock a €90 billion loan for Ukraine and lift the veto on sanctions against Russia.

To receive €35 billion, Budapest must fulfill 27 conditions, particularly regarding the fight against corruption and the independence of the judiciary. It is also necessary to resolve the conflict over migration legislation, for which the country is paying a daily fine of one million euros. EU officials emphasize that, unlike the situation with Poland, the funds will not be released without real legislative changes.

Magyar plans to visit Brussels before his inauguration to discuss these steps, although his first official visits are scheduled for Warsaw and Vienna. At the same time, the EU is concerned that Viktor Orbán may use the time before the new parliament is sworn in to make personnel changes that will complicate reforms. Mátyás’s full mandate gives him the opportunity to quickly change the country’s course, but the Commission demands strict implementation of all points of the plan.

Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian Tisza Party, stated that Russia poses a threat to his country’s security.

Mátyás called on Orbán’s puppets to resign.
