The G7 countries and the United States have agreed to grant licenses for the production of long-range weapons in Ukraine

The G7 countries and the United States have agreed to grant licenses for the production of long-range weapons in Ukraine

During their summit in France, the leaders of the G7 countries adopted a joint statement calling for a large-scale expansion of military-technical assistance to Kyiv. Western allies, including the United States and European G7 members, agreed to grant Ukraine licenses from Western defense companies to establish domestic production of modern weapons.

According to diplomatic sources on the sidelines of the summit, these agreements cover not only air defense systems but also long-range strike capabilities, including long-range missiles.

In parallel with granting licenses to Ukrainian companies, G7 leaders confirmed their readiness to increase direct supplies of scarce air defense systems, interceptor missiles, and other critically important weapons. Commenting on the decision, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that the current production capacity of the global defense industry is insufficient to meet all defense needs, so leveraging Ukrainian and European industrial capacity through the licensing mechanism is a key step toward rapidly increasing production volumes. It is expected that U.S. companies will be able to transfer their technologies to European partners, who will subsequently coordinate the launch of the relevant production lines at Ukrainian manufacturing sites.

This is stated in a joint statement by G7 leaders, released following the summit in France.

The U.S. has not granted permission for the licensed production of Patriot air defense missile systems in Europe. At the same time, Washington stated that the issue is under consideration, but a final decision on localizing production has not yet been made.

As a reminder, Ukraine may receive Patriot missiles that are nearing the end of their service life — Ministry of Foreign Affairs
