The leader of the pro-Russian forces is demanding that the state of emergency in Moldova's energy sector be lifted
Igor Dodon, leader of the opposition Socialist Party, has called for the immediate lifting of the state of emergency in Moldova’s energy sector.
The pro-Russian former president stated on Telegram on March 30 that the Socialist faction will submit a corresponding draft resolution at the next parliamentary session.
The reason for this demand was the completion of repairs on the strategic cross-border power line “Isaccha–Vulcanesti,” which, according to the opposition, eliminates critical risks to the country’s power grid.
The politician called the current state of emergency a “show” and issued an ultimatum to the government regarding a report on the work completed. Dodon emphasized that the prime minister must personally present the report to parliament; otherwise, the opposition will initiate a no-confidence vote against the cabinet. Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban also joined the calls to lift the special regime, noting that there are no longer any objective reasons to maintain the restrictions. Moldovan authorities have not yet commented on these statements, continuing measures to ensure energy security amid regional instability.
On March 24, the Moldovan Cabinet of Ministers approved the introduction of a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days due to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine.
