Lukashenko accuses Lithuania of "hybrid war" over border closure

Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has said that Lithuania has unleashed a "hybrid war" by closing the border with Belarus. In response, he threatened to confiscate more than 1,200 Lithuanian trucks that are currently detained on Belarusian territory. Lukashenka emphasized that if Lithuania does not open the border in the coming days, he plans to take measures in accordance with Belarusian law.

Lithuania introduced border closures on October 29, 2025 due to numerous incursions of weather balloons smuggled from Belarus, which affected the safety of the country's airspace. Lithuanian road hauliers expressed concern as their vehicles were trapped without clear directions and their cargo could deteriorate. Further actions by Belarus play an important role in the development of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the region as a whole.
