Marta Kostyuk has reached the semifinals of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time
The prestigious WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open clay-court tournament, with a prize pool of over €8.2 million, is currently underway in Madrid. Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk has reached the semifinals of this tournament for the first time in her career.
Ukraine’s No. 2 player Marta Kostyuk (WTA No. 23) defeated Czech player Linda Nosková (WTA No. 13) in the quarterfinals of the tournament in the Spanish capital in an hour and a half, 7-6 (7-1), 6-0, according to Ukrinform.
For a spot in the final, Kostyuk, seeded 26th, will face Anastasia Potapova (No. 56), representing Austria.
It should be noted that Kostyuk is competing in the main draw of the Madrid tournament for the seventh time. Last season, the Kyiv native reached the quarterfinals here.
The tournament in the Spanish capital will run through May 4.
Mudryk was suspendedfor four years for doping.
The Ukrainian Football Association has officially announced the end of its collaboration with national team head coach Serhiy Rebrov. The contract was terminated by mutual agreement following the team’s unsuccessful performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
