Poland has declared that its border security measures with Belarus are 100% effective

Poland has declared that its border security measures with Belarus are 100% effective

Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that full control has been established over the situation at the border with Belarus. According to him, border guards are currently able to stop all attempts at illegal crossings, which has raised the detention rate to 100%.

This was reported by RMF24.

Security issues and the protection of the state border were discussed at a meeting of the Security Committee of the Council of Ministers, attended by heads of special services and military command. Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that this success was achieved through a comprehensive set of measures, including physical barriers, modern optoelectronic surveillance systems, and well-established rapid response mechanisms. About 5,000 military personnel, as well as significant numbers of border guards and police, have been deployed to secure the border.

The announcement of a complete isolation of the Belarusian border came against the backdrop of a systemic recession in the Russian economy, which officially began in April 2026. While Poland reports closing its border to illegal migration, Ukraine and Germany are strengthening their strategic cooperation by signing agreements to supply hundreds of missiles to the Patriot air defense system. Strengthening NATO’s eastern flank remains a priority for regional stability amid Russia’s ongoing aggression.

Poland has begun constructing another fence along the border with Belarus. The new four-meter-high fence will be erected in the Podlaskie Voivodeship alongside a service road. Officials in Warsaw say this will help respond more quickly to attempts at illegal border crossings, which, according to border guards, may intensify again this spring.

The Ministry of the Interior and Administration of the Republic of Poland has decided to further restrict free movement across the state border with neighboring EU countries.
