EU ambassadors approved a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia

EU ambassadors approved a €90 billion loan for Ukraine and agreed on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.

This was reported by the Council of the EU.

The decision was adopted at the level of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper). Both issues have already been included on the agenda and supported by the ambassadors of the member states.

A written procedure has now begun, after which the decision must be formally approved by the EU Council.

The procedure is expected to be completed as early as tomorrow.

The European Commission has finalized the key elements of a €90 billion financial support package for Ukraine for 2026–2027. The first tranche is expected to be disbursed as early as the second quarter of this year.

Von der Leyen assured that Ukraine will receive a loan from the EU.
