EU ambassadors take refuge in Brussels bunker amid rising Russian missile threats
Ambassadors from EU countries are now sheltering from Russian missile threats in a specially designed bunker in Brussels, responding to increasing modern security challenges, reports Politico.
The bunker, located in the basement of the European Council building, is designed to prevent surveillance or eavesdropping. It serves as a meeting place for EU ambassadors known as Coreper II (Committee of Permanent Representatives), enabling them to make expedited decisions addressing the most serious current challenges — from former US President Donald Trump’s plans to acquire Greenland to conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.
This situation highlights the tense geopolitical climate today, as even Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky no longer hides in a bunker, while the main military logistics airport in Rzeszów, Poland, remains under potential threat of attack.
