Russia struck Oreshnik in occupied Donetsk Oblast
During the massive strike on Ukraine on the night of May 24, Russian forces launched not one but two "Oreshnik" ballistic missiles; however, one of them crashed prematurely near occupied Donetsk.
This was reported by OSINT researchers analyzing a video recording of the missile’s flight path, released by the monitoring project “eRadar.” A surveillance camera in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast recorded the characteristic separation of the warheads at 00:59, while the officially confirmed strike on Bila Tserkva occurred slightly later—at 01:16.
The Ukrainian OSINT project “CyberBoroshno” geolocated the video footage and determined that the recording was made near the unfinished Rose Park shopping mall on the Ring Road between Donetsk and Makiivka, facing north and northwest. In turn, military analyst Kim Hyowik, after comparing the speed and trajectory with footage of the strike on the Kyiv region, concluded that the impact site was located near Avdiivka. Official agencies from both sides did not comment on the launch of the second missile.
This attack marked the third recorded instance of the “Oreshnik” missile system being used, following strikes on Dnipro in 2024 and on the Lviv region in early 2026. The third time, the main strike hit the city of Bila Tserkva, where, according to the prosecutor’s office, a garage cooperative and a business were damaged, and the target was most likely the local airfield.
