Turkey has sharply cut its purchases of Russian oil — Reuters

In May, Turkey cut its seaborne imports of Russian Urals crude to their lowest level in the past year and a half, partially replacing it with Kazakh crude.

This was reported by Reuters.

According to the agency, Turkey imported 161,000 barrels of Russian oil per day—15% less than the average for January–April and nearly half as much as in May of last year. One of the reasons was the sharp rise in prices for Russian oil, prompting Ankara to switch to the Kazakh CPC Blend.

Turkey is the largest buyer of Russian oil shipments in the Mediterranean and the third-largest in the world after India and China.

Earlier, Turkey joined the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

In January–April 2026, Turkey reduced imports of Russian goods by $3.5 billion, or 22.8%, compared to the same period last year.
