A Ukrainian delegation has arrived in the United States for the IMF and World Bank meetings
A delegation from the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, led by Minister Serhiy Marchenko, has arrived in the United States to participate in the annual Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
The Ministry of Finance’s press service announced this on Facebook. Official events will take place from April 13 to 18, 2026.
The visit’s agenda is extremely packed and includes a speech at a meeting of the G7 Finance Ministers’ Group, as well as participation in a special World Bank roundtable dedicated to the challenges facing Ukraine and its recovery. The main focus will be on securing financial support to cover the state budget deficit and fund reconstruction programs.
In addition to multilateral formats, a series of bilateral meetings with finance ministers from EU and G7 countries is planned. The Ukrainian delegation will also hold talks with the leadership of leading international institutions, including the IMF, the World Bank, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Key topics of discussion include:
- meeting Ukraine’s budgetary needs for 2026–2027;
- restoring and rebuilding the power grid;
- launching the EU’s Ukraine Support Loan facility;
- reforms under the cooperation program with the IMF.
This meeting serves as a key platform for coordinating international financial assistance to Ukraine amid the ongoing war. It is expected that the meetings will result in agreed-upon next steps for stabilizing the Ukrainian economy and establishing long-term lending mechanisms.
Ukraine has not met any of the structural benchmarks it was supposed to implement by the end of March 2026 under the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility.
Ukraine risks running out of the necessary funding to wage the war in the very near future.
