Turkey’s Supreme Court rules likes on other women’s photos can justify divorce
Turkey’s Supreme Court ruled that a husband liking photos of other women constitutes a breach of marital fidelity and is a lawful reason for divorce. The decision followed a lawsuit filed by a woman against her husband.
Previously, local and appellate courts agreed that such behaviour violates marital loyalty. Consequently, the marriage was dissolved, and the woman was awarded monthly alimony of 1000 Turkish lira as well as material and moral compensation of 30,000 lira each.
This precedent could influence similar cases in Turkey by setting new boundaries on acceptable spousal conduct and broadening the interpretation of marital fidelity violations.
