The Syzran Oil Refinery in the Samara Region of the Russian Federation is on fire following an attack. On the night of July 12, there were at least four strikes on the plant’s grounds; the primary oil processing unit, which accounts for 30% of the plant’s capacity, is on fire.
The plant is one of the largest oil refineries in the Samara region and is part of PJSC Rosneft. The facility produces gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, liquefied hydrocarbon gases, and other products. Each year, this facility processes between 7 and 8.5 million metric tons of crude oil.
This oil refinery had previously come under attack on April 18 and May 21, and on May 25, Reuters, citing sources, reported that operations had been suspended following an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to ASTRA.
On the night of July 10, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck a number of strategic Russian military logistics facilities. The strikes targeted 18 ships, the Ilsk Oil Refinery, oil terminals, and fuel depots.
As a reminder, the Omsk Oil Refinery—Russia’s largest refinery, owned by Gazprom Neft—completely halted oil processing following a drone attack on July 6.
