Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Overpaid More Than 2.2 Million Hryvnia for Electricity
A former vice rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv has been notified that she is suspected of abuse of office in connection with the procurement of electricity.
According to the investigation, in 2025 the university entered into a contract with a private company to supply electricity to its academic buildings. Subsequently, the parties signed several supplementary agreements, raising the price each time.
The prosecutor’s office claims that the resulting price significantly exceeded the market average. At the same time, according to the investigation, the then-vice rector failed to take measures to stop the purchases at inflated prices and did not initiate the termination of the contract.
As a result, according to investigators’ estimates, the university overpaid by more than 2.2 million hryvnias.
The former officials are charged under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—abuse of power or official position resulting in serious consequences. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
