Access to three bodies of water in the Kyiv region has been restricted due to a massive fish kill
In the Borshchahivska community of Kyiv Oblast, a mass fish die-off was reported in three bodies of water at once. Due to the environmental situation, public access to these bodies of water has been temporarily restricted.
According to preliminary estimates, approximately 3 metric tons of fish have died. The first case of mass fish mortality was discovered the day before in one of the bodies of water, and on August 11, a similar situation was reported in two others.
Experts collected water samples to determine the cause of the contamination. Several possibilities are currently being considered, including a potential sewage leak during repair work at a facility in Kyiv.
According to preliminary data, the contaminated wastewater may have entered the reservoirs in the Kyiv region through the storm sewer system.
An investigative team and a commission on industrial and environmental safety and emergencies are working at the site.

Earlier reports indicated that work is ongoing in Kyiv to clean up the contamination of Lake Kyrylivske with petroleum products following a massive Russian attack on July 2. Specialists have been cleaning the lake for the second week in a row and have used over 500 kilograms of a special sorbent.
More than 300 cubic meters of the contaminant were successfully removed from the lake’s surface. The work was carried out by about 60 rescue workers using specialized equipment.
