The curfew will be shortened in Kyiv and the surrounding region
Starting September 10, the curfew in Kyiv and the Kyiv region will be shortened. It will be in effect from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., for a total of four hours instead of five. As a result, public transportation in the capital will also operate for one hour longer.
The decision to change the curfew was made separately for Kyiv and the Kyiv region. In the capital, Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced the new curfew schedule. The Kyiv Defense Council approved changes to municipal services in light of the security situation. Starting September 10, the curfew in Kyiv will be in effect from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Previously, the restrictions were in effect for longer. Now, Kyiv residents will have one additional hour to move around the city at night. The new curfew will take effect at 12:00 a.m. on September 10.
Public transportation will operate longer
Along with the curfew reduction, Kyiv will extend public transportation hours by one hour. This is necessary to ensure that the schedules for buses, trolleybuses, and other forms of public transportation align with the new curfew schedule.
At the same time, the operating hours of restaurants, entertainment venues, and shopping and entertainment centers will not change for now. In other words, the curfew reduction does not in itself mean that cafes, restaurants, or shopping centers will be able to stay open an hour longer. The previous rules remain in effect for them.
What Will Happen to Heavy-Duty Vehicles
Separately, Klitschko noted that, starting September 3, transit traffic for large vehicles is permitted during curfew hours. This decision is intended to help alleviate logistics issues and facilitate the movement of goods through the capital.
Another decision concerns rail passengers. Due to possible train delays, Kyiv will organize four bus routes from the central train station. These buses will transport passengers during curfew in cases where trains arrive late.
Curfew Hours Will Also Be Shortened in the Kyiv Region
The same changes will be implemented in the Kyiv region. This was announced on September 8 by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration. “We are refining the curfew schedule in the region. Starting September 10, it will be in effect from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. in the Kyiv region,” Tkachenko said.
According to him, the decision is intended to help adapt the work of government agencies, businesses, and infrastructure to the new security conditions. Tkachenko also emphasized that the region is thereby aligning its rules with those of the capital. “Any discrepancy in the rules would lead to confusion among the public,” explained the head of the Regional State Administration. Thus, starting September 10, Kyiv and the region will have the same curfew hours.
Why the rules were revised
One of the reasons for changing the curfew was the prolonged air raid alerts. Because of them, people may have to stay in shelters for hours, and businesses, transportation, and other areas of daily life are forced to suspend operations. Prolonged restrictions also affect logistics and people’s mobility. This is particularly noticeable during massive Russian attacks, when air raid alerts can last for a significant portion of the night.
Authorities believe that Russia is attempting to inflict damage not only through direct strikes. Prolonged attacks and the associated restrictions also create problems for businesses, transportation, and urban infrastructure. Therefore, Kyiv and the surrounding region are gradually reviewing how the city and region are organized, seeking to maintain necessary security restrictions while minimizing their impact on daily life. This was announced by Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
In the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, a fire broke out in a private residential building as a result of a Russian attack.
As a reminder, fires broke out at businesses in the Kyiv region due to an attack by the Russian Federation.
