Land near Kyiv was seized from Medvedchuk

Ten hectares of forest land in the Obukhiv District of Kyiv Oblast, which had been used for over two decades by companies linked to former People’s Deputy Viktor Medvedchuk, have been returned to state ownership.

According to the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, in 2004, officials from the Kyiv Regional and Obukhiv District State Administrations illegally removed this land from state ownership and transferred it to private entities.

Prosecutors determined that during the transfer of the plots, the mandatory decision of the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the expropriation of forestry land was not adopted, which violated the requirements of land and forestry legislation.

State ownership of the returned plots was officially registered on June 3, 2026.

The prosecutor’s office noted that this is not the first instance of assets linked to Medvedchuk being returned. In January of this year, a neighboring 24-hectare forest plot was returned to the state, and in March, another 9.5 hectares of forest in the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region.

Efforts to return illegally alienated land and property to state ownership are ongoing.
