Spanish singer, composer and actress Sílvia Pérez Cruz gave a free concert on August 23, 2026, at the San Francisco el Nuevo Church in Old Havana. The performance began at 18:00 amid widespread power outages in Cuba, The Rio Times reports.
Concert at the church
The church is located at the corner of Cuba and Amargura streets in the La Habana Vieja district. The venue was chosen for its acoustics and independence from the national power grid.
That day, power outages affected up to 70% of Cuba, and disruptions could last for more than 20 hours. According to the publication, the church's power supply, independent of the general grid, made it possible to hold the concert despite the blackouts.

Before the concert, Pérez Cruz told the EFE agency that she considers this performance the most important of the entire tour. Three musicians, identified in publications only by their surnames, also performed with her on stage: Monfort, Roma and Albero.
Sílvia Pérez Cruz was born on February 15, 1983, in Palafrugell, Catalonia. She studied jazz vocals at the Catalonia College of Music, launched her solo project in 2012, and is a recipient of the Premio Nacional de las Músicas Actuales 2022 and the 2012 Goya Award for Best Original Song.
