Dahlias 2026 exhibition continues in Latvia

The “Dahlias 2026” exhibition is taking place at the Latvian National Museum of Natural History from September 10 to 13, featuring hundreds of dahlias. Visitors can see both classic varieties that have already become popular and new breeding varieties. LSM English reports.

New dahlia varieties

The exhibition was organized jointly with the Latvian Dahlias Association, the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia and the National Botanical Garden.

This year, special attention has been given to new dahlia varieties being shown to the general public for the first time. They include the AB Katrīna variety, bred by Aivars Baroniņš.

The exhibition features dahlias bred in Latvia and other countries. In addition to the flowers, visitors can learn about different varieties and the specifics of growing these plants.

Advice for gardeners

Visitors can speak with specialists in dahlia cultivation and breeding, ask them questions and receive practical advice on plant care, overwintering and choosing varieties for their own gardens.

Dahlia collector Katrīna Kisnere noted that water-lily-type varieties, which resemble this flower, are popular. According to her, dahlias need care well in advance for lush autumn flowering: it is necessary to choose a suitable place, plant them on time, water them and care for them.

Dahlias are often called autumn flowers because they usually bloom when other summer plants are already beginning to fade.
