In Pakistan, Saife Hasan, director of the series Aap Ki Izzat, said that Saba Qamar, Mahira Khan and Sara Khan were considered for the lead role of Beena before Urwa Hocane received it. The director spoke about the casting details in an interview, Dawn reports.
A challenging role across two timelines
According to Hasan, finding an actress for the role of Beena was not easy, as the character appears in two timelines. The actress had to convincingly play both a mother of children aged 10 to 12 and a college student.
The director also said that at one point the series team considered using two actresses for the role of Beena. Reema was then discussed as a candidate for the older version of the character. Ultimately, the role went to Urwa Hocane, whose work Hasan highly praised, noting her persistence and ideas during filming.

The script and the series title
The director selected the actor for the role of Tabish, Beena's husband who betrays her in the plot, immediately — it was Ahsan Khan. Hasan suggested that some actors may not have devoted enough time to the script because of its considerable length and their busy schedules.
He clarified that the main casting decisions were made by Momina Duraid, head of the production company working on the series. According to the director, the project could initially have been titled Tumhari Beena, and after screenwriter Umera Ahmed completed her work, the number of planned episodes increased from 20 to 22. At the time of the interview, the 17th episode had been released.
