In South Africa, the entertainment project Spotlight presented a selection of new films and series, including the sequel Practical Magic 2, the Afrikaans-language film Landmyn, Tyler Perry's project Why Did I Get Married Again? and the crime series Game Day Murders. This was reported by TimesLIVE.
The return of the Owens sisters
Practical Magic 2 continues the story of sisters Sally and Gillian Owens 30 years later. The heroines now have daughters and confront a dark curse threatening their family. The film was directed by Susanne Bier, known for Bird Box and Serena. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman have returned to their roles, while Joey King and Maisie Williams also star in the film. The picture has already been released in South African cinemas.
Another theatrical premiere was the award-winning Afrikaans-language film Landmyn. It tells of family trauma and old wounds that resurface when relatives gather together. Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Again? franchise returns to Netflix. The new story centres on the daughter of Marcus and Angela, who is preparing for her wedding. Her parents and their friends notice that their children are repeating familiar relationship patterns. Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White and Taraji P. Henson will return to the project, along with a new generation of actors.
The six-episode true-crime series Game Day Murders premieres on September 14 at 21:00 on Investigation Discovery, DStv, channel 171. The series focuses on high-profile murders connected to the world of sport and includes testimony from former teammates, relatives and investigators. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is the series' executive producer, while sports journalist Lindsay Czarniak is its host.
