Video: A 10-year-old girl from Odesa, who lost her leg as a result of an attack by Russia, danced in New York
Ukrainian rhythmic gymnast Oleksandra Pascal, who lost her leg as a result of a Russian missile strike on the Odesa region, performed in New York City’s main square. The 10-year-old athlete continues to practice rhythmic gymnastics despite her severe injury.
Oleksandra Pascal took to New York’s main square—Times Square—where she performed the “Dance of Freedom.” Ukrainians and local residents passing by watched the gymnast’s performance. In the video, you can watch Oleksandra’s dance, in which she performs various gymnastic elements woven into a dance routine. During the performance, the girl was cheered on by spectators holding Ukrainian flags.
One of the spectators at the performance, Galina Perederii, a lawyer from Ukraine, shared her emotions after watching Oleksandra Pascal’s routine.
“In 2022, Sasha lost her leg due to a Russian missile strike on the Odesa region. But today she stood before the world not as a victim of war, but as a symbol of strength, courage, and resilience. Tears in my eyes… And one question: where is our humanity? Where is our love? We cannot get used to war. We cannot remain indifferent. If this little girl found the strength within herself to take the stage and show the world the truth, we, too, can take a step forward. Speak out. Take a stand. Show support. Remind the world that Ukraine is fighting. We share one pain. One struggle. And only together are we strong,” the post reads.
As is well known, Oleksandra Pakscal is currently on her international “Dance of Freedom” tour, during which she will perform in Rio de Janeiro, Nairobi, and Tokyo. The gymnast’s first stops were in Paris and New York, where she performed “Dance of Freedom” and attended various events and meetings.
