ADNOC uses AI to manage production during the war — OilPrice

UAE state oil company ADNOC is using AIQ developments to manage production, equipment and oil flows during the war. As OilPrice reports, at the start of the conflict, UAE oil exports fell by about two-thirds, from around 5.1 million barrels per day to 1.9 million barrels per day in March.

By mid-September, UAE crude oil exports had risen to 3.236 million barrels per day, compared with 2.886 million in August and 2.871 million in July, according to Kpler data cited by Reuters. ADNOC transported oil through the Habshan–Fujairah pipeline, expanded tanker operations and used ship-to-ship transfers in the Gulf of Oman to supply crude outside the Strait of Hormuz.

Automation of wells and equipment

AIQ’s RoboWell system analyzes real-time data and automatically optimizes the operation of producing wells. It has been deployed at more than 500 wells; according to data cited by OilPrice, this made it possible to increase production by 5% and reduce the number of well interventions by up to 50%.

Another system, Neuron 5, processes pressure, temperature and vibration readings from compressors, valves, generators and other equipment to predict maintenance needs. Pilot use at the Northeast Bab field and the Taweelah gas compression facility, according to ADNOC’s assessment, could reduce unplanned shutdowns by 50% and extend scheduled maintenance intervals by 20%.

At the end of 2024, Neuron 5 was operating on 1,200 pieces of critical equipment. ADNOC plans to complete the system’s full deployment by 2027. The company also stated that more than 30 of its AI applications generated $500 million in additional value in 2023 by reducing capital, operating and working-capital costs and increasing production.

Contract and international expansion

In March 2025, ADNOC signed a three-year, $340 million contract with AIQ to deploy the ENERGYai platform in production operations. In the future, the system is expected to cover more than 28 producing fields and thousands of wells. During a 90-day trial at two fields, one AI agent performed seismic data interpretation 10 times faster than conventional workflows, while another produced reservoir pressure forecasts in 15 minutes.

AIQ is also testing technologies in Kuwait, India, Malaysia, Vietnam and Egypt. The company considers the United States, Canada and the North Sea to be target markets and is exploring acquisitions for international expansion.
