HD Hyundai Heavy wins contract for Taean wind farm substation — Korea Herald

In South Korea, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has signed a contract to build an offshore substation for the planned 500 MW Taean offshore wind farm. The substation will step up the voltage of electricity generated by wind turbines before it is transmitted to land.

Agreement for the Taean wind project

As reported by The Korea Herald, the agreement with Taean Wind Power covers the design, procurement, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the facility. The wind farm is planned to be built near Geuido-ri in Taean, South Chungcheong Province.

Taean Wind Power is a joint venture of Singaporean renewable energy project developer Vena Energy, Danish investment company Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Korea Western Power. The main contract was preceded by a preliminary design agreement in March and a preferred supplier status agreement in July.

Certification of an in-house model

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has also completed certification of its own offshore substation model. The Norwegian classification society DNV confirmed the model's basic design last year and its detailed design in August. According to the company, the development became the first South Korean offshore substation design to receive both confirmations in accordance with international rules and standards.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said it would apply its expertise in offshore industrial facilities to implement the Taean project and would consider other projects being developed in South Korea by Vena Energy, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Korea Western Power.
