China unveils 6 MW-class emergency diesel generator for nuclear power plants — ECNS
CSSC Power (Group) Corporation Limited unveiled a 6 MW-class emergency diesel generator set for nuclear power plants in Shanghai, China. According to ECNS, this is China’s first domestically developed unit of this class. The presentation took place on Tuesday.
Unit characteristics
The unit was named Hechai No. 1. Its output at full load is 6,600 kilowatts. According to the publication, the unit starts in less than 10 seconds, while its mean time between failures exceeds 2,000 hours.

Backup power for safety systems
Emergency diesel generators provide backup power to critical safety systems in the event of a loss of normal power supply. This helps safely shut down the reactor and prevent further development of an accident.
Addition to the product line
The new 6 MW-class unit complements the 8 MW-class Hechai No. 1, unveiled in December 2024. As ECNS notes, this expands the equipment lineup for various applications in nuclear energy.
