Binance invests $100 million in Circle to promote USDC globally — CNBC

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance is investing $100 million in Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, under a five-year agreement to promote USDC on the exchange’s platform. As CNBC reports, Binance agreed to purchase $100 million worth of Circle shares at $80.84 per share.

Investment terms

The Circle shares acquired by Binance will be subject to a sales restriction lasting up to two years, although the agreement provides for certain exceptions. The investment is part of a five-year partnership between the companies.

Under the agreement, USDC will gain access to Binance’s large global user base. In return, Circle will pay the exchange a monthly incentive fee linked to USDC balances.

Competition in the stablecoin market

Circle seeks to expand USDC use beyond the historically U.S.-focused market and compete more actively in international cryptocurrency markets with Tether’s USDT stablecoin. USDC and USDT are intended to maintain a stable one-to-one value with the U.S. dollar.

According to CryptoQuant, about $183 billion in USDT is in circulation, while the volume of USDC stands at approximately $75 billion. Circle is also developing other business areas: last week, the company launched the Arc blockchain and is working on nanopayments and agentic commerce.
