Harvard University triples its stake in BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF

Harvard University has significantly expanded its investment in BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF, increasing its stake by more than 250% in the third quarter of 2025. As of September 30, the university owned 6.8 million shares of the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, worth $442.8 million. This was the largest investment by Harvard in this reporting period, which underscores the institution's confidence in cryptocurrency assets.

Experts point out that for charitable foundations like Harvard, investing in ETFs is a rare occurrence, as such institutions are usually cautious about investing in these financial instruments. Despite this, Harvard became the 16th largest holder of this ETF according to the report. Of its other investments, the university has also invested in leading U.S. technology companies and increased its exposure to gold, reflecting a desire to diversify its portfolio in the face of market volatility.
