Quantum risk breaks 12-year Bitcoin-to-gold trend — Willy Woo

Bitcoin Vector co-founder Willy Woo stated that the longstanding trend in Bitcoin’s valuation relative to gold has been disrupted due to the emergence of quantum risk in the market. This indicates that investors have started factoring in the possibility of quantum computers breaking ECDSA signatures, altering the traditional approach to cryptocurrency valuation.

Woo also noted that although Bitcoin will likely transition to quantum-resistant cryptography, there remains an issue with about 4 million lost BTC. If these coins are not “frozen” during a hard fork, they could theoretically re-enter circulation. He estimated a 75% chance that they won't be frozen, meaning the market must account for the risk of their sale.

Willy Woo forecasts that the so-called Q-Day, when quantum computers can break Bitcoin’s cryptography, could occur within the next 5 to 15 years.
