IMF predicts US national debt to reach 140% of GDP by 2031

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that the United States’ national debt will rise to 140% of its gross domestic product (GDP) by 2031. The upward trajectory of the debt-to-GDP ratio, combined with the increasing share of short-term debt, poses risks not only to the US economy but also to global economic stability.

According to the US Treasury Department, the national debt has already exceeded $38.5 trillion. This highlights significant economic challenges the US may face in the coming years.

The future path of the US debt will largely depend on government debt management policies and global economic conditions.
