Near Paris, armed criminals impersonating police officers broke into a family home and forced the homeowner to transfer approximately €900,000 in Bitcoin. After receiving the funds, the assailants tied up and injured the couple, but the woman managed to free herself and call for help. Police are currently attempting to track the stolen coins through the blockchain.

In 2025, incidents of such attacks in France have increased by 75%, with total victim losses reaching $40.9 million. Law enforcement warns about the growing threat of these criminal schemes and is working on improving countermeasures.
