Vitalik Buterin criticizes the concept of Web4
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin expressed doubts about the Web4 idea after a developer claimed to have created an AI agent capable of earning, evolving, and “reproducing” autonomously without human involvement.
According to Buterin, the attempt to minimize human involvement and delegate everything to autonomous AI systems is a flawed approach. He argued that such efforts currently generate more “junk” than they solve real problems. Buterin emphasized that Ethereum’s goal is to enhance human capabilities, not to create autonomous systems that operate independently while user conditions either remain stagnant or worsen.
Buterin’s criticism calls into question the viability of Web4 and highlights the need to focus on empowering people through technology, rather than total automation and detachment from human input.
