Adyen plans to expand operations and hiring in India
Dutch payment service Adyen plans to expand its operations in India and hire new employees, counting on growth in the digital payments market and cross-border trade. Adyen’s President for Asia-Pacific, Gary Young, said this in an interview with Reuters, Channel NewsAsia reports.
According to Young, the company sees India as a long-term growth market. Adyen expects activity from international clients entering the Indian market, as well as from Indian companies expanding their businesses abroad.
Growing presence
Adyen obtained payment aggregator and cross-border operation licences in India in 2024. The company’s local team grew tenfold compared with 2023, reaching 120 employees in the first half of 2026.
According to the company’s annual reports, Adyen’s pre-tax profit in India more than doubled, from €1.45 million in 2024 to €3.18 million in 2025. Adyen’s net profit from global operations in 2025 amounted to €1.06 billion.

Adapting to the local market
The company is adapting its platform to India’s regulatory and payment requirements, including data localisation rules. Adyen also offers tools for recurring payments and services related to India’s Unified Payments Interface, or UPI, instant payment system.
“It is impossible to succeed in India without UPI,” Young said. The UPI system processes billions of transactions every month.
Adyen’s clients include Uber and Microsoft. The company works, among others, with Adobe, which seeks to expand its range of payment capabilities in India, and also helps Indian travel platform Oyo expand beyond the country. Adyen is also preparing for the development of AI-based agentic commerce, in which software agents can search for products and make purchases on behalf of consumers.
