Hospital in Ghana receives medical equipment worth over 4 million Ghanaian cedis — MyJoyOnline
Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Ghana has received medical equipment and supplies worth more than 4 million Ghanaian cedis from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. The assistance is expected to strengthen the provision of specialized medical care at the facility, MyJoyOnline reports.
Equipment for specialized care
The donated equipment included a fully equipped Olympus endoscopy system for gastroscopy and colonoscopy, two jaundice meters, as well as supplies for respiratory care, oxygen therapy and anesthesia.
The equipment was part of a larger consignment donated to the fund by Lifecare Technology Ghana. Ghana Medical Trust Fund administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku said the handover was part of events marking the fund's first anniversary. According to her, the hospital was selected because of its urgent need for an endoscopy system and other necessary supplies.

Funds for other needs
The hospital's chief executive officer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, said the existing endoscopy machine is more than 10 years old. The facility's management had considered spending about 800,000 Ghanaian cedis to replace it.
According to Baidoo, the donation will allow these funds to be directed to other critical services. He also described the construction of a cardiac intervention center as one of the fund's most significant projects. According to him, the hospital had not had such a center in its 70 years of operation, and the establishment of the fund has brought the project closer to realization.
